Prouche shares his love of drawing with children!

Cultural and educational activity Prouche shows children and teenagers how to draw like a professional artist by using the Prouche Method. His workshops are extremely popular. He wrote and illustrated his own how-to books for children called the DWGS (Drawing With Geometric Shapes) Collection.

Background

Although he is best known for his comic strips and artistic talents, Prouche studied architecture, administration and computer graphics. He uses the Prouche Method he developed to teach children from kindergarten to high school how to become more adept at drawing. This artist and author produces and publishes a series of how-to books, the DWGS Collection, to teach children how to draw by using geometric shapes. His drawing/workshop/publishing business is growing steadily and owes much of its success to his popular DWGS Collection. An overview of the Prouche Method is available on the artist’s website.

Proposed approach and type of activities

The artist offers two workshops.

Writing and drawing my own comic strip

This two-hour activity can be given to two classes per day (one group at a time). The first hour is devoted to learning basic drawing techniques, which the artist illustrates on paper or on the board. During the second hour, each student is given the opportunity to draw a three-panel comic strip. A huge hit with children and teens!

Drawing my own comic strip character

This one-hour workshop can be given to three classes per day (one group at a time). This first half-hour is devoted to learning drawing techniques (characteristics, objects and dialogue bubbles), and the second to making a colour drawing (either a panel or illustration) on a Prouche Sheet. Impressive results, even by the youngest participants!

Materials required:

For each of these workshops, you will have to get one Prouche Sheet per student. A Prouche Sheet is a special tool on which the students will sketch, ink and colour their comic strip or character. Cost: $2.00 a sheet, applicable taxes not included (GST, QST).

You will also need 12 small, black, fine-tipped felt markers (e.g.: Pilot Fineliner) per group of 30 students.
